It is with great pleasure to hear a little insights from a dear cousin, Glaiza Abong about how she and her family has been facing the covid19 dilemma. However, before we look and read what she can say about the worldwide pandemic situation, let me tell you a little bit more about our wonderful childhood memories together.  Welcome to “The Cousin’s Journey”.

To start with, Glaiza is the next grandchild after me.  I am four months older than her and that could only mean one thing, we grew up pretty close.  We enjoyed playing outdoors together and we both loved to play our cooking game.  Yeah!  The real cooking play pretend where we did lit fire and boil some water in a used tin can and added some leaves as our vegetables.  Oh boy, those types of children’s activities we both enjoyed I think this has been the foundation of our beautiful ” cousins’ journey”.  Glaiza and I also attended the same high school, and used up some of our youthful energy by joining the same extra curricular activities.  A lot of those school activities.

If you have read about our about section, you will read there that competition had been too prevalent in our family.  I won’t deny we were always get compared in every single way. How unhealthy was it? Right Glaiz?

I think, the beauty behind women’s journey is that, the evolution we all experience is profoundly rewarding.

As women get older, we realize how much we cared about things that meant less when we were younger.  The older women get, the more we appreciate each other’s  existence.   Not about what material stuff we can give to one another, but the tiny little things that affect us to be the women that we are right now.   Those little beautiful influence we have all among ourselves is inevitable.

Looking back now, I guess with all the competition we used to face before, my cousin has taught me to accept how things are.  I won’t deny there were too many things that Glaiza won over me before, and that gave me this strength to face things that are not within my hands along the way.   Cousins’ journey  may not be that evident as you grow older as you part ways; but I guess, if we give our selves a chance to analyze how we are right now, a big part of us has been grealty influenced by how our relationships with our cousins were.  It is something that we should always appreciate and celebrate.

The presence of cousins in our lives makes our journey worth remembering; worth re-telling.

As we both are mothers right now, we always have this wonderful moments reminiscing all those childhood memories we had.  We laugh about how we adore our wonderful gowns that our grandma made for us for our Prom,  oh those were pretty! We also can’t stop laughing about how we enjoyed cooking this tiny little thing called ” sarissa” and pretend it as our meal.

We had fun and active military training days which we both enjoyed during our high school days. I now actually ask myself why I put myself into that.  That was tough!  I can vividly recall how Glaiza’s face looked like during those intense trainings we had.  She certainly also remembers the determination and endurance look that were evident on my face during those times.  Maybe I should ask her about this and laugh again with her.   Oh, seems just like yesterday. For me, these are the most memorable times I had with her.

Glaiza now is happily married to her childhood sweetheart, which I was so surprised.  Her husband was my highschool classmate for couple of years and they both met since they were like eight or ten.  I do kinda feel that this is one of the reasons that made this cousins’ journey more exciting.  Well done you two! Glaiza and her hubby are sharing their joy with their little bundle named Psalmer, and that’s how’s Psalmthing Special started.

Thanks Glaiz for sharing this covid19 story you have. Let’s hear it from her.

What are the positive changes that covid19 has been causing you?

  • Covid 19 made us all value our health more than before.

What are the negative changes that covid19 has been causing you?

  • Covid 19 resulted to “Disconnecting people”. With our current situation , we no longer visit family, friends, even church.

Has covid19 caused you to be a better person? How?

  • Yes! With this experience, I learned to value the importance of family and time đź’•

How would you encourage people who are experiencing struggles during these difficult times? What do you want to tell them?

  • This is part of God’s plan.  As a result, we struggle and stumble. But onething we should not forget is to always stay hopeful for this will not last.

Many people can attest that indeed covid19 brought us all back to basics. Simple lifestyle, family time and simple pleasures in life. I am delighted that this situation has also brought me and my cousins closer despite distance. Because of covid19, my family around the globe has been actively chatting in through family group messenger. Common conversations we have are basically, reminiscing how things were used to be; the number of times we played hide and seek, and too many fun and silly memories.

Right now during covid19 pandemic, our family group messenger also serves as a tool for us all to remind and inspire each other to be healthy and fit starting now. With our daily messages, photos and videos sharing, we do feel the warmth of being a family.  As a result of this, our family had tigthen our bond since covid19.  How amazing is that?

We all feel that cousins are like real siblings. They can be our best friends.

Thank you Glaiz and I’ll catch you in the messenger.
