Harvesting Memories: Reflecting on a Month of Celebration
As September rolled in, I felt an invigorating sense of anticipation. After a vibrant August filled with strength and growth, I stepped into my favorite month, ready to embrace whatever it might bring. Ready to harvest beautiful memories.
The month began with a significant occasion: Franco’s 17th birthday. Seventeen! It’s hard to believe how quickly the years have passed. I can still picture him as a little boy, full of dreams and curiosity.
Celebrating Franco
We celebrated Franco’s birthday with a simple family dinner—just us four, gathered around the table, sharing stories and laughter. It was a moment of tranquility amidst life’s busyness. I remember the excitement in his eyes as he unwrapped his funny gifts, especially when he finally received the drum set he had been dreaming of—a present from August that had him bouncing with joy. The sound of those drums fills our home now, a constant reminder of his passion and growth.
As I watched him play, I reminisced about his early years—the way he would bang on pots and pans, lost in his own world of rhythm. Seeing him now, with his own drum set, made my heart swell with pride. It reminded me that we all have our own rhythms in life, our own unique journeys that shape who we are. What dreams did you nurture in your youth, and how have they evolved over time?
Theonee’s Volleyball Journey
September also marked a pivotal moment for Theonee, who participated in several volleyball games this month. Each match was a rollercoaster of emotions for me as a mother. Watching her step onto the court, filled with determination and excitement, was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins as I captured each moment on my phone—her powerful serves, the graceful digs, and the camaraderie she shared with her teammates.

Her first game was especially memorable. The atmosphere was electric—cheers from parents and friends filled the air, and I could see the fire in her eyes. As the game progressed, I felt every point scored as if it were my own. When they won, Theonee beamed with joy, a smile that lit up the entire gym. In that moment, I was reminded of the beauty of teamwork and the sheer joy of pursuing something you love.

Over the course of the month, Theonee participated in a couple more games, each one a testament to her growth. It was heartwarming to see her develop not just as an athlete but as a person. With each game, she learned more about resilience, determination, and the importance of supporting each other on and off the court.

Have you ever felt that rush of pride watching someone you love pursue their passion? It’s a beautiful reminder that we are all capable of greatness when we follow our hearts.

Cherishing Connections
Another highlight of September was reconnecting with dear friends, those who understand the intricacies of life and the struggles we all face. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Claudine and Inday Dawn, two remarkable women who have walked their own challenging paths. We gathered for a quick catch-up, and in that moment, I felt the weight of the world lift off my shoulders.
There’s something profound about sharing your story with others who genuinely understand.
We laughed, cried, and reflected on our journeys, creating a safe space where vulnerability was welcomed. These connections are vital for our mental and emotional well-being, reminding us that we are never alone in our struggles.
I encourage you to reach out to someone who inspires you or offers support. Sometimes, a simple conversation can reignite your spirit and remind you of the strength we all carry within.
A Lesson in Self-Care
As the month progressed, I continued my routine of going to the gym, seeking that balance between physical health and mental well-being. However, life had other plans. I fell ill during the Pchum Benh Days holiday, which forced me to slow down and take a step back. It was a gentle reminder that we need to listen to our bodies and prioritize self-care.

That time off was not just about recovery; it was also a chance to reflect. I found myself sitting quietly, sipping tea, and watching the world from my window. I realized how often I rush through life, juggling responsibilities without taking a moment to breathe and appreciate the present.

Have you experienced a moment that forced you to pause and reflect? Sometimes, these moments of stillness are the most enlightening.
Navigating Life’s Challenges
September brought its share of challenges, too, particularly our visit to the immigration office—a task that always feels daunting. The familiarity of the process felt both comforting and overwhelming. As we prepared the necessary documents, I reminded myself that life is a series of cycles, some repetitive and some new.

My husband stood by my side, ever the supportive partner. His kindness and patience helped me navigate through the stress. We encountered our usual hurdles—missing documents and incorrect information—but we pressed on, determined to complete the task.
In moments of frustration, I often find myself reflecting on the importance of perseverance. Life isn’t always easy, but facing challenges together strengthens our bonds. What challenges have you faced lately, and how have they shaped your perspective?
Celebrating Theonee’s Birthday
Shortly after Franco’s birthday, we celebrated Theonee’s 15th birthday. She spent her birthday eve at her grandparents’ house, which filled my heart with warmth. There’s something special about tradition, about passing down moments that connect us to our roots.

On her actual birthday, we shared a small family dinner at home, filled with laughter and takeout—her favorite! I felt a pang of realization as I noticed how often we’ve relied on convenience lately. But amid the simplicity, we created a treasure trove of memories.

Gifting Theonee her first pop art doll was a delightful surprise. The way her eyes sparkled as she unwrapped it brought joy to my heart. It reminded me that sometimes, the simplest gifts mean the most. Family conversations flowed easily over easy Mexican food, and I cherished every moment spent together. And ofcourse, the DIY bed last month was the major present that brings her the best days and nights yet. Thanks my love.
What traditions or moments do you hold dear during celebrations? It’s often the little things that create lasting memories.
Celebrating My Dad
September is also my dad’s birthday, and despite the busyness of life, Theonee and Franco made it a point to celebrate with him at the restaurant. It was a stark contrast to the grand celebrations we might have back home in the Philippines, where birthdays often mean lively gatherings and feasts. Here, a small dinner felt just as significant.

I reflected on how birthdays can differ across cultures, yet the essence of love and connection remains the same. In the Philippines, birthdays are celebrated with friends, family, and an abundance of food, a time for sharing and joy. What are your favorite birthday traditions?

A Month of Reflection and Growth
As September comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the myriad of experiences that shaped this month. It has been a time of celebration, of recognizing the growth within my children and the deep connections I share with loved ones.
I want to take a moment to honor my husband, whose unwavering support has made this month memorable. His kindness and dedication to our family bring a sense of stability and love that I cherish deeply. Thank you, my love, for being my anchor.

As we transition into October, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your own journeys. What have you learned from your experiences this past month? How have they shaped your outlook on life?
Let’s continue to celebrate the beauty of our journeys, no matter how small the moments may seem. Together, we can find joy in the highs and support in the lows.
Until next month, let’s cherish every moment and share our stories. I look forward to hearing from you.
With love,
