How to Grow Tomatoes

One of the amazing things that we have witnessed is seeing tomato seeds from our kitchen sprouting into seedlings.  Fresh from cut tomatoes while we were cooking, we collected seeds and planted them directly into our nursery.

Being thrifty and resourceful, we thought we could use our soil bags as pots.  The soil we bought in Cambodia mainly comes in old cement bags.  To cut down our costs, we thought it was a good idea to use these bags as pots for our growing plants.    We used those cement bags for our growing avocados, cucumbers, basil, and tomatoes.  Everything grew except our tomatoes.  We were disappointed.  We then started to experiment, putting tomato seedlings in clay pots.  Quickly we noticed that not only that the tomato plants in clay pots grew faster, but also started producing fruits.  Look at the difference:

We felt sad for the tomato plants that did not grow well in the cement bags, seeing how beautiful they should be if they were in better pots.  Being a little stingy and OCD, we want to see the same white pots as what we already have because it really ties our balcony together.  We transferred our tomato plants from the cement bags to our plastic pots. Now they are adjusting to their new environment which we are hoping will give them the best chance to flourish.  See how they are now:

Even though most people would give up in their tomato plants in the state that they were in, we hope that they will obtain a second life in their pots and hopefully bear fruits.  We are beginners in rooftop gardening and we would love to hear some advice from you.  Let’s keep on #planting!

Send an email if you want to know where we get our pots and garden needs.  Unfortunately, the shops are not in google maps.  Thank you guys!
