Playing Games is an Effective Teaching Tool

Playing games in the class has been an effective tool in teaching.

Do you know that playing games is an effective teaching tool?  When done with proper management, playing games in the class can be the most effective tool a teacher can use to foster learning.  I love my profession. It makes me do what I love to do.  I love playing games, and you know what makes it better? I play with the children. Although I made them win at times ofcourse. Most of them would love to beat me, and I love seeing that kind of attitude. At the end of every game, I always remind the children that winning is just a bonus. Most children these days are too competitive. Letting them realize that it’s not always about winning will definitely encourage and motivate them to do more in life.

Why is playing games in the class effective?

Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning.

Diane Ackeman

According to what I have observed during my entire fourteen years of teaching, children who feel comfortable learn effectively. How do we make the children feel comfortable? “By playing games.”

Going back to my childhood, there were some teachers whom I wasn’t comfortable with. Most likely I didn’t do well in their subjects. However, there were also some teachers I had that made me feel extremely comfortable, and in those class I excelled. If you can imagine how I always do my best in my class to make my students feel comfortable towards me, even at times it made me less comfortable. However, hard work pays off. Every end of the school year, I would always give my self a little tap on my shoulders for realizing that I was able to built a lifelong rapport with all of them. It just feels great knowing that you can build that healthy relationship with your students.
